The network had problems. Not well fitted to a busy nursing environment, their outdated Cisco handsets were breaking on a regular basis, requiring at least ten handset replacements weekly to keep the network operating. The talk times on the phones were very poor, and the Center lacked a comprehensive technology base for integrating their clinical devices into an efficient collaborative network. They had no maintenance contract in place for these phones, forcing their IT department to purchase and program refurbished replacement phones themselves. They needed a solution that would meet their needs more comprehensively while reducing the costs associated with maintaining and developing their wireless nurse call architecture.
