Services

Messaging

The messaging service provides the most basic level of direct communication to phones. Provided with a specific extension or extension group (managed by the core server group manager) and a message, the messaging service will push the information for display (and optionally tone).

LDAP Reader

Most commonly used to integrate with Active Directory, the LDAP reader parses and searches LDAP trees for information which it makes available to CAPS services. A common use of this service would be searching the company directory for a particular name and looking up the phone number associated with that name.

Call Control

Call control allows CAPS to initiate calls from desktop or soft phones via the AES. While this is most commonly used in Click-to-Dial applications, it can also be used as a mechanism for calling via a phone-screen director search tool. Call Control also gives the user additional functionality such as intercepting calls and enhanced caller ID.

Applications

Visual Caller ID

Visual Caller ID is a custom application that displays pictures of both parties on a call; the caller sees a picture of the party they are calling and the recipient sees a picture of the party who is calling. This application supports most handsets provided by Avaya, automatically scaling and adjusting resolution based on the target display. Visual Caller ID takes advantage of the LDAP reader if the LDAP store contains imagery or it can utilize the internal data store (manageable by the Admin Portal). This feature can also be customized to pull graphics from a “structured source” such as Outlook or a social networking site.

Message of the Day

Message of the Day allows a group of users the ability to enter a message via a web page and direct it to an individual, group, or set of groups (all manageable by the Admin Portal). This message is then directed at the desktop or soft phones for display and optional audible tone.

RSS Reader

RSS Reader is an extension of the Message of the Day theme in that it utilizes the same services to perform its task. However, it gets the messages from an RSS feed or set of feeds and uses criteria matching to determine which party or parties receive those messages.

Company Directory

Company Directory provides the user with an interface on their phone to enter a name and then utilizes the LDAP Reader service to search the directory and return the results to the user’s phone. A search-results screen provides direct links or soft buttons to allow instant dialing.
