CBS Super Bowl XLIV - Day 10

January 29, 2010

We spent the entire day covering changes to our plan and doing all of the detailed installation and programming work for each mobile unit.

I compare this portion of our work to building a new home. For weeks you follow the progress of the foundation, the framing, the roof, the pluming, and the electrical and then the contractors are ready for all that finish work and everything seems to go at a crawls pace. That is our position right now.

These mobile units are intertwined with every aspect of getting this show on the air. The communication between them and out to the camera positions on the field, camera perches, on-the-field set, announcers booth, commentary, color, the NFL booth and instant replay have to happen at lightning speed. This is the part where any mistake on our part becomes HUGE! There will be 2-rehearsals. One on Thursday, 02-04 and the last a dress, complete rehearsal (and I mean complete). It is everything you will see and hear on Sunday, all day Saturday. Bottom line, at the end of the rehearsal on Thursday, we will be called-out for any flaws. We will have all day Friday to correct them, and on Saturday, no more excuses!

We kept all of our guys at the stadium today. We are going to spend Saturday and Sunday on South Beach with 3-techs. This should get us ready for Monday.

As I left the CBS hotel (this is the hotel where most of the employees and subcontractors stay) this morning, I noticed 4-guys in the elevator with me all with CBS credentials. As we stepped into the lobby everyone had a CBS credential on. We all seem to know each other, yet we really don’t know what most of us do. It is an extremely interesting concept that everyone goes to work every day at the same place, pretty much at the same time, and everyone goes to their assigned area of responsibility. Two weeks later, one of the most incredible television experiences happens. We are just happy to play a small role in its success.

Stay tuned, the pictures get better!
