CBS Super Bowl XLIV - Day 14

February 02, 2010

The rain has passed for the time being. The giant Super Bowl banner over the stadium is now up.

Today, was Media Day. CBS announced all ad space for the Super Bowl has been sold. Average minute will cost $3MM. There will be over 1,000 Secret Service, FBI, local, and state police, PLUS all the hired security game day. Actually, I think they all arrived today. The security is unbelievable!

Our “trailer” community has grown to about (700). Yesterday, we processed 23,344 calls. Each one was captured, remotely by our DATEL call recording system. Eventually, each call will be billed back by department.

At South Beach, we had a few issues with the turn-up and test of the last T1. We are confident this will be resolved on Wednesday. We will be ready at 7:00 AM on Thursday for the first broadcast of the Early Show.

At the CBS Compound it was the most hectic day to date. Lots of changes and all the “VIPs” just coming in. On top of that, it was “Media Day” so we had lots of dry pairs to worry about for “mic stand-ups” in Section 216 (location of Media Day in the stadium). And as everything else is going on, we had the critical crisis alert go off. This is an internal “911,” programmed by Carousel that rings forty key CBS Compound residents in the event of an emergency. I was on the phone with Peter Mahon and one of our Clients when this happened. I started screaming in the middle of our call, as the culprit walked in and said, “I am sooooooo sorry!” It was that kind of a day.

I attended Media Day. It is a spectacle that must be witnessed once in your life. Hoards of media waiting to get a few brief seconds with the likes of Drew Breeze or Payton Manning. Few, like me get the chance, but still we clamor and hope we will get to shake their hand or simply exchange a hello. It is a scene that unfolds 1,000-times in a matter of an hour, yes that is all we get for the prize of fame.

Stay tuned, the pictures get better!
