CBS Super Bowl XLIV - Day 15

February 03, 2010

Our “trailer” community has grown to over (800). Yesterday, we processed 17,444 calls.

I will be on South Beach Thursday for “first day of business,” for the Early Show. The on-set call is for 6:00 AM. We are 100% ready to go!

The CBS Compound was buzzing with activity. We are up to 47-ring downs, the greatest number ever since 1996. A lot has to do with security and a lot more with redundancy. The Super Bowl is HUGE! You have to be here to understand and believe everything that goes on behind the scenes. Every detail is covered, and then reassessed and covered again.

We are spending a lot more time and effort on all of the NFL activities like “tailgate” and the “fan stage.” Showtime is filming tonight and then the NFL store opens on Friday and all kinds of activities open up to the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All the communication is set for now.

“People that Matter”

I was in one of the stadium freight elevators this morning around 7:30 AM. I met two gentlemen Sam and Quentin. They had two rather large machines with plenty of hose with them. They insisted I could fit in the elevator with them and I did. I asked them what the machines were, and they told me they were high pressure steam cleaners. Sam and Quentin proceeded to tell me they were responsible for all the sections on the upper deck. They normally had a week to clean their areas, but this week they only had 3-days. “We are going to work late tonight and tomorrow. Friday, we have a church meeting, but we will be back bright an early on Saturday to finish up. We know this area really well. We have been covering it for 12-years.” Later in the day, I found them in one of the highest points of the stadium. I brought them crackers and soda. I asked them if I could take my picture with them. They said it was against the rules but they could sit with me for a minute and enjoy their break. If you ever get to Sun Life Stadium, I think you will find the upper deck is fit for a king.

Stay tuned, the pictures get better!
