CBS Super Bowl XLIV - Day 16

Our “trailer” community has grown to over (850). We processed 23,766 calls today.
I was on South Beach at 5:35 AM for “first day of business,” for the CBS Early Show. We watched the sunrise as I arrived. What a beautiful thing. What a perfect setting. We had a few minor problems, but over-all it went without a hitch. I watched the entire show from behind the scenes including an incredible performance by Gloria Estefan.
By a little after 10:00 AM, I was back at the CBS Compound. Today is a critical day for us. The dress rehearsal is going on right now. They test everything as if the show was actually on the air. This includes the performers coming out and doing their “thing” and all the special effects, yes they test all the “pyro.” By 7:30 AM on Friday, we will have a list of things that didn’t work, and we will have until Saturday at 9:00 AM, when they run through the entire show again.
We still have a lot of work to do around the NFL “tailgate” and the “fan stage.” We will have it wrapped up by noon on Friday.
“People that Matter”
There are two individuals at CBS ultimately responsible for the quality of the picture you will get on your TV this Sunday. Bob Seidl, VP of Engineering, does it every day for every CBS show. Bruce Muller ultimately reports to Bob. Bruce will be sitting in the Denali “HD” truck on Sunday to make sure we are all happy. I had an opportunity to chat with Bob and Bruce today, and I asked them what I think anyone of you would ask… which TV would you buy for yourself? After a lot of all that engineering talk, they both hedged on the manufacturer a bit, and then said Sony and Sharp. “Most importantly, look for backlit LED, high frame refresh, 120/140 Hz and Internet connectivity.” There you have it. Now, go buy a new TV for the BIG game!
Stay tuned, the pictures get better!
