CBS Super Bowl XLIV - Day 17 & 18

Our “trailer” community is holding at about (850). We processed 23,922 calls today. CBS has started, using the Datel call recording system, providing detailed, daily reports by department.
The security at the CBS compound is intense. It takes us on average 20 to 30-minutes to get through all the checks including individual bar coding each morning. Last night we had the Secret Service, FBI, ATF and Homeland Security do a security sweep through all the trailers, the stadium, every nook and cranny of this giant place.
We passed the dress rehearsal with flying colors. We had 2-issues; the “NFL Observer” ring down did not work going back to the Pre-Game truck and the ring down between “on-set” at the Fan Stage and the Pre-Game truck. All of the other (51) ring downs worked. We were commended for a “job well done” more than once.
Katie Couric’s broadcast from South Beach last night went off without a hitch while at least (100) parties went on around her. South Beach is crazy! I wish I had time to hang around down there.
Today, we are mostly babysitting. Unless there is an issue, no one is going to request any more changes. We continue to check and double check our work. Any ring down that fails during the game can give us a huge black mark.
“People that Matter”
Since I arrived here, I have been wanting to find Rod Taylor at his “perch” position high up over the stadium. Today, I got lucky! I climbed those 200-steps (yes I counted them) and found him at his “desk.” Rod is the man way behind the scenes, and always on top of anything going on in the playing field. Rod is the key, Sky Cam operator. For those of you that may not know what that means; Rod controls that camera on wires that goes across the field. When I asked him about his specific skills for this critical camera, he simply said… “I spent a lot of time playing video games with a joy stick.”
