CBS Super Bowl XLIV - Day 5
January 24, 2010
Change of plans. We decided to get up early and go to South Beach to start our critical (30) cable pulls. At 7:00 AM, local authorities told us our permit was not valid on Sunday. We are now 2-full days behind schedule at South Beach. We will come back on Tuesday or Wednesday and pull a 16-hour day.
Back at the CBS compound all of the data pulls have been patched through and tested. We have handed our certification paperwork to CBS. If there are any issues, we will know really fast.
We now have dial tone out to (122) of the most critical phones at the CBS Compound. All of our data pulls have been certified and validated by CBS. This is the biggest milestone for Carousel to date.
On Monday, we start the (61) CATV pulls and the necessary fiber pulls. We hope to be able to start pulling our voice, data and video (coiled at the entrance of the stadium tunnel) from the stadium over the “cable bridge” back to the CBS Compound.
“People that Matter”
In an effort to provide a behind the scene peek at the folks that help create the Super Bowl spectacle, I will attempt to provide a visual and short story every day.
Bob Theile has been a CBS employee for the last 25-years. He is an Executive Production Manager, responsible for logistics for the Super Bowl, Final 4 and the PGA Championship. He has a support staff of nine here in Miami. It starts with verifying credentials in NYC for over (800) CBS employees and subcontractors like Carousel working the CBS compound, the production hotel and the CBS Early Show on South Beach. This involves local police, the FBI and the Secret Service. Ordering all of the supplies (paper clips to trash disposal), the trailers, the bathrooms, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, vehicle rentals, hotel accommodations, 3-meals a day for (800) people starting on 01-28, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in every trailer (Florida law), and let’s not forget voice, data, video, fiber and CATV, and everything else you can possibly imagine. One example of everything we do not think about on Sunday when we are watching the game.
Stay tuned, the pictures get better!
