CBS Super Bowl XLIV - Day 9
January 28, 2010
We are now 100% complete at the production hotel. Starting on Saturday, CBS will script the entire 6-hour broadcast here.
Back at the stadium, we connected and tested all of the “dry pairs.” These are all the microphone positions for interviews along the side lines, locker rooms, “green rooms” (where the guest and performers wait) and in front of the main stadium entrance. In addition, we connected and tested all of the “ring down” positions, including all the camera perches, field producer, NFL officials, instant replay and stadium broadcast announcer just to name a couple. We have many more to do. We also made excellent progress with the mobile units.
We finally got to South Beach. This place is jinxed for us. The police in Miami are on a partial work stoppage. One of the areas they refuse to cover, is special assignments. So when our trucks got to South Beach, the local police would not let them through the public access road to the beach. Fortunately, they did not realize they were dealing with Marty Fraser. Marty called the Florida Highway Patrol and got a full escort to our trailers. Leave it to Marty. I was stuck at the stadium, so we do not have pictures. I will get down there and get us some pictures.
I just left the production hotel a few minutes ago with Ren Burke and Tim Harrison. Our techs continue to impress me, but more importantly our Client. The most critical people to CBS’ broadcast of the Super Bowl will sit in these rooms and prepare everything we see and hear on Super Bowl Sunday starting this Saturday. When they walk in, they will feel right at home. What we and may others have done to recreate their space in NYC is simply amazing.
Stay tuned, the pictures get better!
