CBS Super Bowl XLIV - Day 1

January 20, 2010

History

It started in the spring of 1992 with Bill Clinton. I had been seeking CBS business for months. All of a sudden, I received a call from CBS indicating they need a temporary phone service at Madison Square Garden to support CBS’ broadcast of the Democratic National Convention. I had a couple of meetings with CBS key folks, and later that year, we provided all of the telecommunications services CBS required, and the now 18-year relationship was formed.

Since then, we have done every possible sporting event including beach volley ball, “monster truck”, World Series, US Open, NCAA games, the Final Four, and the Super Bowl since 1996.

As we arrived in Miami today, all of the memories of prior events rushed our minds. We realize that once again our ability will be tested to deliver on time, and within budget a “technically perfect” Super Bowl. Our spirit through arduous 16-hour days, and our technical intellect to think and react at hyper speed will be challenged every day. In the end, Carousel will meet and exceed expectations.

Day 1

As we arrived at the CBS compound at the newly named “Sun Life Stadium,” the first impression is always, massive chaos. It is amazing how so many trades can come together in a matter of days and build a min-city. It is always incredible to me how everyone gets along so well, and in the end it all comes together.

We ran about (100) voice and data cables today for the most critical locations. We also racked and stacked the 8730s, the G650s.

The “cable bridge” (the structure connecting the compound to the stadium) will support all of the voice, data, video and CATV cables is about 80% complete.

I am going to take pictures from the same spot every day so you can view the progress. It will be impressive a week from now.

This is the first of many blog entries to follow. Stay tuned!
