If you could choose one word to describe the Carousel culture, what would it be, and why?
Teamwork! As a member of our service delivery team, I work alongside engineers, technicians, and other talent spread far and wide across the country. I can always count on other team members to lend their knowledge and skills to help with service and solution implementations and support.
What are you most excited for regarding the future of the technology industry?
The thing that excites me most about the tech field is, by and large, I am surrounded by people with a thirst for knowledge. Because this landscape is constantly evolving, in order for us as a company and individually to maintain competitiveness, we all must have our finger on the pulse of what’s next and thoroughly understand the happenings in our industry.
Which technology innovation has made the most impact on your life?
Unified communications tools have made the most impact because of its convergence; it’s one stop shopping. Depending upon the platform, it may have multi-axis integration, meaning a user can have dissimilar endpoints like BYOD, which is advantageous and cost-effective, particularly in this line of work.
What is most exciting about being a #CarouselCrew member?
Being in the NOC, I am engrossed in the day-to-day and every time I interact with my peers, I learn something new.
What are your top 3 life highlights? 1. My 10 year old son Blake and I do a “Give Back” BBQ for the kids in the Pine Hills Neighborhood of Orlando every summer where we have a police officer, fire chief, and commissioner discuss the importance of personal and public safety. I use that to also teach Blake that there is an awesome feeling from giving back. 2. Seeing my daughter Shanice graduate high school at 16 years old with a 4.0 and then receiving her BS from GSU at 20 and excelling in life. 3. Lastly, another highlight of my life was watching my eldest son, my namesake Devond III (Trey), mature through the challenges we face today and not succumb to peer pressure. Proud to say he’s a junior in college seeking a BS in occupational therapy at one of the country’s leading HBCU’s FAMU!!
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Find your hobby, make it your career—you’ll be rich and happy.
What do you wish you knew more about and why?
Cancer. I lost my dad and a dear friend to prostate cancer and my goal is to put together a yearly prostate cancer screening in their names to educate/support males about getting screened, early detection, and beating cancer, notwithstanding their financial state.
