Nearly 30 Carousel team members from the Connecticut office recently gathered at the Veterans Home and Hospital in Rocky Hill for a day of volunteering. The Veteran’s Center sits on a 92- acre campus and has hundreds of veterans both on an inpatient and outpatient basis.

The Home had been looking for help with outdoor maintenance, gardening, and socializing with the veterans, so Carousel Industries jumped at the chance. With more than 30 of their very own employees taking part, the day began with Veterans Affairs Commissioner Thomas Saadi welcoming the volunteers and giving a brief overview of the numerous programs and benefits that the home gives to veterans each and every day.

Following this, the volunteers spent the duration of the morning giving the campus a refreshed look by spreading mulch, pulling weeds, and edging the gardens. During lunch, Carousel team members had the chance to sit down and speak with the veterans; it was wonderful to see how much joy this brought the veterans and Carousel employees, alike.

Wrapping up the day, the volunteers headed across the street from the campus to where five veteran family homes are located. Carousel employees restored the sides and front gardens of each house, and ended the day on a high note!
